7.2 Prototype Images
The images shows how the "Safinger" behaves when door opens and closes. While door in open state, it prevents the fingers to go in and thus accidents. While in closed state, the it folds out parallel to door plane.
7.3 Gap and Problem Definition
Doors in India have one problem (this could be universal problem). While closing the door the chances are you crush your fingers if your fingers are at the edge. I found this is a serious design gap and must be solved with suitable design solution. Most of the times accident happens with kids and as a parent its a horrifying experience to see your kid in extreme pain.
Initially I thought to design safe doors with various user needs related to doors. But later I found that user do not buy doors separately and is provided by builders. It is hardly sold in the market, instead user prefer to go with the default door or get it designed through carpenter.
Considering this problem, I decided to find out the solution which will prevent the finger crush accident.

7.4 Next Steps
I would like to explore this idea further to check few more possibilities. I need to find out an easy way to install / uninstall this product on door. There are few options to try out such as install the door with screws or vacuum caps (as shown below) or with sticky material (will be tricky to uninstall it). To start with I will try with rubber/plastic material when I think of making it commercially. Metallic material may again pose similar question of safety for which this product is made for. Along with this I would like to check the cost effectiveness for mass production.
